RECONCILIATION AND EDUCATION AT HEART OF ORANGE JERSEY PARTNERSHIP
INDIGENOUS FOOTBALL CANADA, FOOTBALL CANADA, AND ORANGE JERSEY PROJECT JOIN FORCES IN A HISTORIC PARTNERSHIP TO ADVANCE RECONCILIATION ACROSS CANADA
OTTAWA — In a groundbreaking collaboration to promote education, understanding, and healing, Indigenous Football Canada, Football Canada, and the Orange Jersey Project proudly announce a powerful partnership aimed at fostering reconciliation and unity across the nation. This unprecedented alliance seeks to commemorate the legacy of the Residential Schools in Canada and contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts of truth and reconciliation in the country.
RAISING AWARENESS, INSPIRING CHANGE
With a shared commitment to creating a positive impact, Indigenous Football Canada, Football Canada, and the Orange Jersey Project will provide 150 teams across Canada with free Orange Jerseys. These symbolic jerseys represent more than just a uniform; they are a poignant reminder of the children who attended Residential Schools and an essential step toward raising awareness about the historical and cultural significance of this chapter in Canada’s history.
EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT
Alongside the Orange Jerseys, the partnership will introduce a comprehensive learning module designed to educate players, coaches, and communities about the profound impact of Residential Schools. This educational initiative will foster understanding, empathy, and dialogue, essential elements in the journey towards reconciliation.
COACHING AND ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT
In addition to the educational component, Indigenous Football Canada and Football Canada are exploring opportunities to provide additional coaching and athlete resources. These resources will empower young athletes and coaches, ensuring they have the support needed to thrive both on and off the field.
A PLEDGE FOR UNITY AND HEALING
“This partnership signifies a collective commitment to healing, understanding, and unity,” says Kevin T Hart, President, and CEO of Indigenous Football Canada. “Sport has the power to transcend barriers, and by joining forces, we are leveraging this power to educate, inspire change, and contribute to the healing process.”
